President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will address the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Wednesday, September 24.
According to the revised provisional list of speakers issued by the UN, Dissanayake is listed to speak during the afternoon session of the General Debate, which will run from September 23 to 29.
In his maiden UNGA address as head of state, Dissanayake is expected to outline Sri Lanka’s reform agenda, economic revival efforts, and the government’s position on global issues including climate action, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
The 2025 General Debate will see world leaders including those of the United States, China, India, and Brazil deliver statements under the theme set by the UN General Assembly President.
Dissanayake’s speech will mark Sri Lanka’s first address to the global body since his election earlier this year. (Newswire)
