The massive fire that broke out in Pettah’s First Cross Street yesterday (20) was brought under control after firefighters battled the blaze for nearly 12 hours.
Police said the fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical leak, started around 4 p.m. on the fourth floor of a shop selling electrical appliances and mobile phones, before spreading to a nearby building.
The operation involved more than 20 fire trucks, an Air Force Bell 212 helicopter, and support from the Police, Navy, Air Force, and the Port Fire Brigade.
Investigations are ongoing, with the Government Analyst and the Magistrate expected to visit the site today.
