Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament today that a statement by the father of Vihanga Tejan, a child killed in the 2019 Easter Sunday bombing at the Shangri-La Hotel, to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) could harm Sri Lanka internationally.
Premadasa said the victim’s father had informed the OHCHR that he was dissatisfied with the progress of the investigations, warning that such remarks could negatively affect the country’s standing abroad.
“This is harmful for the country. You must take steps to reassure the victims and give them the credibility they seek,” Premadasa said.
The Opposition Leader further called on the Parliament to submit the relevant reports from the Cabinet Secretariat and the Attorney General, which formed the basis for rejecting the No-Confidence Motion against Deputy Defence Minister Aruna Jayasekara.
Sajith Premadasa emphasized that, following the submission of a no-confidence motion against Jayasekara, the relevant reports from the Cabinet Secretariat and the Attorney General, which formed the basis for rejecting the motion, should be presented for parliamentary discussion.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa added that there are no personal issues concerning Aruna Jayasekara, who is currently serving as Acting Minister of Defence.
A group of Opposition MPs submitted the No-Confidence Motion against Deputy Defence Minister Aruna Jayasekara to the Speaker in August, citing serious concerns over his alleged involvement and conflict of interest in the investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks. (Newswire)
