Former MP Thissa Kuttiarachchi says he will serve as Sri Lanka’s “unofficial president” when Namal Rajapaksa is elected head of state.
Addressing supporters, Kuttiarachchi said he considers himself one of Rajapaksa’s closest allies and claimed that a political wave is already building for Rajapaksa to win the presidency in 2029.
He remarked that opposition leader Sajith Premadasa is no longer part of the political conversation, while uncertainty surrounds the timeline for President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s hold on power.
“It is not clear whether President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will lose power tomorrow, next week, next month, or only in 2029,” Kuttiarachchi said. “But when that moment happens, Namal Rajapaksa will be the president of this country. That is certain.”
He further said that his role on that day would be to remind Rajapaksa that the people of Anuradhapura, who he claimed would deliver him the highest percentage of votes, must be recognized and served in return. (Newswire)
