Parliament will convene from October 7th to 10th

The Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, announced that Parliament is scheduled to convene from Tuesday, October 7th to Friday, October 10th. This decision regarding Parliamentary Business for that week was made yesterday (25) at the meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business held under the patronage of Hon. Speaker, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

On Tuesday, October 7th, from 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m., time has been allocated for the Business of Parliament as per Standing Order 22(1) to (6) of the Parliament. From 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions for Oral Answers. From 11.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions under Standing Order 27(2) of the Parliament. Thereafter, from 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., the debate on the Second Reading of the Convention against Doping in Sport (Amendment) Bill is scheduled to be taken up. Subsequently, from 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., time has been allocated for Questions at the Adjournment Time.

On Wednesday, October 8th, from 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m., time has been allocated for the Business of Parliament as per Standing Order 22(1) to (6). From 10.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions to be asked from the Prime Minister. From 10.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions for Oral Answers. From 11.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions under Standing Order 27(2). Thereafter, from 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., the Supplementary Estimate of the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation is scheduled to be taken up for debate and approval. Subsequently, from 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., the Motion at the Adjournment Time by the Government is scheduled to be taken up for debate.

On Thursday, October 9th, from 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m., time has been allocated for the Business of Parliament as per Standing Order 22(1) to (6). From 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions for Oral Answers. From 11.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions under Standing Order 27(2). Thereafter, from 11.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., the Adjournment Debate by the Opposition is scheduled to be taken up.

On Friday, October 10th, from 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m., time has been allocated for the Business of Parliament as per Standing Order 22(1) to (6). From 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions for Oral Answers. From 11.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions under Standing Order 27(2). Thereafter, from 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., 08 Private Members’ Motions to be moved for debate are scheduled to be taken up.

🔸 Hon. Lal Premanath – Taking actions to prevent public dissatisfaction with all local government institutions at the grassroots level

🔸 Hon. T.K. Jayasundara – Designation of the ecosystem comprising the towns of Pitigala, Udugama, Neluwa and Deniyaya as a tourist zone

🔸 Hon. Ruwan Mapalagama – Integrating law and ethics to the school curriculum

🔸 Hon. (Dr.) Kavinda Heshan Jayawardhana – Formulating a programme for the proper functioning of the National Drug Quality Assurance Laboratory

🔸 Hon. Rohana Bandara – Initiation of an insurance scheme for the farming community

Subsequently, from 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., the Motion at the Adjournment Time by the Opposition is scheduled to be taken up for debate.

Meanwhile, the Committee on Parliamentary Business also decided to present to Parliament on 26.09.2025, two motions pertaining to the amendment of the relevant Standing Orders connected to the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), in order to obtain the approval of Parliament to refer them to the Committee on Standing Orders.
