Three suspects and a woman who allegedly assisted them have been arrested in connection with the double murder reported from the Waddigala, Ranna area under the Hungama Police Division, police said.
The killings occurred early on October 7, when a man and a woman were found hacked to death inside a house in Waddigala. Following investigations by the Hungama Police and the Tangalle Divisional Crime Investigation Unit, officers arrested three male suspects and a female accomplice during operations carried out in Andupelena and Ranna areas on the same day.
Police said the arrested suspects, aged 27 and 33, are residents of Ranna, while the 35-year-old woman is also from the same area.
During the operation, officers recovered a locally made 12-bore shotgun, two knives, one live 12-bore cartridge, and one spent cartridge believed to have been used in the killings.
Further investigations are underway to apprehend additional suspects involved in the incident, police said. (Newswire)
