National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and former MP Wimal Weerawansa today (Oct. 10) accused the Tangalle Divisional Crime Investigation Unit of deliberately altering and releasing only selected portions of the statement he provided yesterday (09) to the media.
Weerawansa said he had visited the Tangalle office and given a full statement lasting nearly three hours in connection with his earlier remarks about the arrest of an individual identified as “Beliatte Sana” or “Puwakdandawa Sana.”
He charged that the Police had “intentionally edited and distorted” parts of his statement before releasing it to the media, omitting key sections that explained his position.
Weerawansa further alleged that this selective publication appeared to be an attempt by the Police to conceal the political links of the suspect and to mislead the public.
He stated that instead of focusing on finding the truth behind the matter, the Police had acted in a way that “undermines their independence” and serves as “an arm of the government’s propaganda machinery.”
“The statement released by the Police is completely distorted. Such conduct does not suit a law-respecting Police service, but rather a mud operation of the government,” Weerawansa said in his statement. (Newswire)
