Authorities have urged visitors to Horton Plains National Park to follow park regulations amid a recent surge in visitors arriving to witness the rare ‘Nelu’ flower.

Warden of the park, Sisira Rathnayake, said that action will be taken against those who violate park rules, stray from designated tracks, or cause damage to the park’s flora and biodiversity.

“In a national park, visitors are only allowed to observe animals and the environment. They are not permitted to engage in illegal activities such as going off track, plucking flowers, or feeding animals. During the past week alone, we have issued spot fines to about 50 individuals,” he said.

He added that legal action will also be taken against those who went off track to take photographs or videos and subsequently shared them on social media. (NewsWire)
