Pakistan have requested to tour Sri Lanka in January 2026 for a three-match T20 International series, with discussions between the two cricket boards currently underway, according to Pakistan’s Express Tribune.
The series has been proposed for January 8, 10, and 12 in Colombo, serving as early preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India in February 2026.
Before this, the Sri Lankan team is scheduled to tour Pakistan in November 2025, where they will first play three ODIs from November 11 to 15, followed by a tri-nation series involving Afghanistan from November 17 to 29. However, due to ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, it remains uncertain whether the triangular series will proceed as planned or if Pakistan and Sri Lanka will instead play a bilateral series.
Sri Lanka are also set to host England later in January for a limited-overs series comprising ODIs and T20Is, which will form part of their World Cup build-up.
While Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has yet to confirm the Pakistan series in Colombo, officials said the proposal is under consideration, depending on venue availability and the tight international calendar.
If finalized, this will be Pakistan’s first bilateral visit to Sri Lanka since 2023.
Pakistan will play all their matches of the 2026 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, as they will not tour India due to ongoing political issues between the two countries. (Newswire)
