The United National Party (UNP) has issued a special statement affirming its commitment to protecting Sri Lanka’s democratic multiparty system by calling on all political parties to unite on a common platform.
The UNP said that safeguarding the multiparty system requires preserving the identity and policies of each political party while working collectively toward democratic goals. The UNP called on all parties to support this principle.
As part of this effort, the UNP also expressed willingness to work in unity with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) by bridging existing differences between the two partiesm. The UNP confirmed its participation in discussions held at the Opposition Leader’s Office under the leadership of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
The statement further noted that the UNP is open to holding discussions with all other political parties and has agreed to appoint a committee to facilitate dialogue with the SJB.
Recent statements by the SJB indicate the potential for aligning future initiatives with the UNP’s core objectives, the UNP said. (Newswire)
