Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has called for the immediate implementation of essential services through disaster management committees in response to the sudden disaster situation that has emerged across Sri Lanka.
Speaking in Parliament today, he noted that due to the salinity intrusion issue in the Matara District, a significant area of farmland is at risk, and reports have already confirmed the loss of three lives as a result of this disaster.
MP Premadasa added that while programs such as the JVP’s Red Star Force have been active in the past, the government must now implement its own coordinated response.
He emphasized that the opposition is prepared to contribute to such efforts and urged the government to swiftly present a comprehensive disaster response plan to Parliament in light of the escalating situation. (Newswire)
