Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa today extended his gratitude to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa for his support in strengthening public health services through donations.

Speaking in Parliament, Jayatissa thanked Premadasa for donating 39 medical devices, including a dialysis machine and an RO plant, to the Kabithigollewa Hospital for the treatment of kidney patients. He said such contributions directly benefit patients and urged others to continue providing similar assistance in the future.

Responding to Premadasa’s query about reported plans to rename the 1990 Suwaseriya ambulance service, the Minister clarified that the government has no intention of changing either the name or the colour of the ambulances. He affirmed that the service will continue to operate under its existing identity and purpose.

Premadasa, raising the issue earlier in Parliament, questioned whether the government had decided to rename Suwaseriya as the “1990 Sri Lanka Emergency Medical Service” and change its colour scheme. He warned that altering the service’s well-established identity would be a “shameful act,” noting that Suwaseriya, once misunderstood, is now recognized internationally as one of the best emergency ambulance services in the region.
