A 71-year-old woman has been found murdered at her residence in Yatiyana, Minuwangoda, in what police have described as a brutal and disturbing crime.
According to reports, the victim, who had been living alone since the death of her husband two years ago, was allegedly assaulted, raped, and killed by unidentified assailants. Police said the attackers had thrown chili powder on her face and strangled her to death.
The crime was discovered yesterday (24) when a woman from a nearby house visited the victim’s residence and found her lying motionless on the floor with chili powder marks on her face. She immediately alerted the Minuwangoda Police.
Acting Minuwangoda Magistrate Indrani Ratnayake visited the scene and ordered the body to be sent to the Gampaha Judicial Medical Officer for a postmortem examination.
Minuwangoda Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the incident. (Newswire)
