A 21-year-old Canadian national has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake with a stock of hashish valued at over Rs. 180 million.
According to reports, the suspect was apprehended by officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Division while attempting to smuggle the narcotics out through the airport’s Green Channel.
The arrested individual is a 21-year-old Canadian national who arrived at Katunayake early this morning (28) from Dubai.
Upon inspection of his travel bag, authorities discovered 18.253 kilos of hashish concealed in 72 small packages inside six polythene-wrapped bundles.
The suspect and the seized narcotics have been handed over to the Airport Narcotics Bureau for further investigation, according to Customs officials. (Newswire)
