An 81-year-old woman was found hacked to death inside a house in the Medawachchiya area yesterday.
According to the Police, the deceased is a resident of Issinbessagama in Medawachchiya.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the woman was residing with her son, who has a speech impediment, and had been attacked on the head with a knife by him on Sunday (26).
The Police said the cause of the murder is yet to be determined, while the suspect has been arrested.
