A woman who attempted to enter the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court premises carrying a fake pistol has been remanded until November 4, following her arrest and court appearance today (28).
According to reports, the woman, identified as Deepika Mudali Herath, also known as Lakshmi, was apprehended yesterday (27) after court security officers discovered what appeared to be a pistol inside her handbag during a routine inspection.
Police investigations revealed that she is a resident of Notelpitiya, Tangalle, though her National Identity Card listed the same Tangalle address while she claimed to currently reside in Meegoda.
She had reportedly told officers that she came to court regarding a traffic case. However, when her identity and case details were checked, no such case was found in court records, raising suspicions about her motives.
Following further questioning, the pistol was confirmed to be a fake. The woman was subsequently handed over to the Avissawella Police for further investigations.
After considering the facts presented by the police, Avissawella Magistrate Prabuddha Jayasekara ordered that the suspect be remanded in custody until November 4. (Newswire)
