President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today warned Police officers involved in the drug network to immediately leave the ring or face being removed by the authorities.
“Leave immediately! Otherwise, we will remove you,” President Dissanayake said.
He issued the warning while addressing the event to launch the government’s new initiative to eradicate the threat of narcotics, titled “United as a Nation – National Drive” (“රටම එකට – ජාතික මෙහෙයුම”).
The President pointed out that there is an opinion that the drug menace could be eradicated if the Police Department is cleansed, adding, “This is true”.
“Some villages believe that once information is provided to the Police, people immediately come in search of the informant. Measures are being taken by the authorities to end this. This is the era where the highest suspensions have been carried out in the Police Force. We have suspended a large number of officers. We tell other officers to immediately get out of that network,” the President said.
President Dissanayake also warned officials from other state entities, especially the Immigration, Motor Traffic Department, and Customs, involved in illegal activities, to immediately suspend such actions and get out of such networks. (Newswire)
