The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today that a female lawyer and five actresses are under investigation over their links to underworld figure Kehelbaddara Padme.
CID officers said attorney Thamara Kumari Abeyrathne, arrested for allegedly assisting the gunman in the Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder, was being detained and questioned.
Investigations have revealed that she had provided the shooter with two neckties, a lawyer’s vehicle emblem sticker, copies of the Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code, and photographs used to prepare a forged lawyer identification card. The CID has sought a 90-day detention order for further questioning.
Officials told court that the five actresses, who had maintained close connections with the main suspect Kehelbaddara Padme and travelled abroad, are being questioned to determine whether they were involved in organised crimes, including drug trafficking, money laundering, and illegal arms dealings.
The Magistrate ordered the CID to present the progress of the investigation on November 7. (Newswire)
