
The Ambassador Cup 2025 International University Badminton Championship commenced today at the University of Colombo Indoor Stadium, with a friendly exhibition match between Deputy Minister of Finance Anil Jayantha and Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong marking the ceremonial opening.
The match, played in a spirit of camaraderie and goodwill, symbolized the strengthening of sporting and diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and China. The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Deputy Minister Anil Jayantha, with the participation of University of Colombo Vice Chancellor Prof. Indika Karunathilaka, senior officials from the Chinese Embassy, and other distinguished guests.
Now in its third consecutive year, the Ambassador Cup 2025 is organized by the University of Colombo with the generous sponsorship of Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT). The tournament, which runs from October 31 to November 3, has become a prominent fixture in the university sports calendar.
This year’s event features participation from universities across Sri Lanka, recognized by the University Grants Commission, as well as foreign universities from India and China, highlighting its truly international character.
The championship includes both student and staff categories, creating greater opportunities for participation and fostering stronger sporting and academic collaboration between local and foreign institutions. (Newswire)
