Ten people were injured, nine of them critically, in a mass stabbing on a London-bound train on Saturday evening, British police said.
The attack occurred aboard a London North Eastern Railway service traveling from Doncaster to King’s Cross. Police said the train was stopped at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire around 7:40 p.m. after reports of multiple stabbings.
Armed officers and emergency crews rushed to the scene. Two men were arrested at the station, one after being subdued with a Taser. The incident was declared a major emergency, and counterterrorism officers are assisting with the investigation, though the motive has not been established.
Passengers described chaotic scenes as the attack unfolded. “Someone shouted, ‘They’ve got a knife, I’ve been stabbed,’” one witness told local media. “There was blood everywhere.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the “appalling violence” and said his thoughts were with the victims and their families.
Police urged the public not to speculate on the motive while investigations continue. The train and surrounding area remained cordoned off overnight for forensic examination.
Rail services through Huntingdon were suspended, with London North Eastern Railway advising passengers to avoid travel on Sunday due to continuing disruptions. (Newswire)
