8 fatal road accidents reported across Sri Lanka

At least eight people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents reported from different parts of Sri Lanka on November 3, police said.

According to the Police Media Division, the incidents were reported as follows:

  • Ragama

A three-wheeler driver was killed when his vehicle was hit by a fast train at the Walpola railway crossing early Monday. His wife and mother were seriously injured and admitted to Ragama Hospital.

  • Moragahahena

A 44-year-old man from Boralesgamuwa died when his three-wheeler overturned and collided with a car on the Horana–Padukka road. The car driver has been arrested.

  • Badalgama

One person died and two others were injured when a lorry veered off the road and overturned on the Negombo–Mirigama road near the 22 km post. The deceased was a 45-year-old resident of Diwuldeniya.

  • Beliatta

A 46-year-old woman from Nakulugamuwa, who was driving a three-wheeler, died after the vehicle toppled off the Beliatta–Dikwella road at Kudahilla.

  • Polonnaruwa

A 41-year-old man from Nikaweratiya died when his motorcycle crashed into a telephone post on the Habarana–Batticaloa road at Kadawalawewa.

  • Medawachchiya

A 33-year-old man from Rambawewa died after his motorcycle collided with a bus near the 149 km post on the A9 road. Police said heavy smoke from a nearby bush fire had obscured the road. Two suspects, including the bus driver and a man involved in setting the fire, were arrested.

  • Murunkan

A 43-year-old resident of Silawathura died when a three-wheeler collided head-on with a tipper truck at Pariharikandal. The truck driver was taken into custody.

  • Kalawana

A 65-year-old man was killed when a van hit a stationary three-wheeler at Koswatta Junction on the Weddagala–Kalawana road. The van driver has been arrested.

Police said all victims’ bodies have been placed at respective hospitals for post-mortem examinations, and investigations are continuing into each incident.
