Cabinet approves Budget 2026 proposals

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the Appropriation Bill for the 2026 financial year.

The second reading of the Budget 2026 is scheduled to be presented to Parliament this afternoon by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Finance.

The budget speech is set to be delivered in Parliament at 1:30 pm today. This marks the second budget presented under the National People’s Power (NPP) government.

The total projected government expenditure for 2026 stands at Rs. 4,434 billion.

The Maximum permitted outstanding borrowing is Rs 3,800 billion.

The amount of expenditure “charged on the Consolidated Fund” (i.e., statutory/automatic expenditures) is Rs 4,545.643 billion. (Newswire)
