The prevailing rainy condition is expected to continue in the Northern and Eastern provinces due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance developing to the east of Sri Lanka, according to the Department of Meteorology.

As such, showers may occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota district today.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the other areas of the island after 1.00 pm.

Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Pottuvil to Mannar via Trincomalee and Kankasanthurai.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.

Winds will be North-easterly or variable in direction, and speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar will be moderate. The other sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
