
The low-level atmospheric disturbance persists to the East of Sri Lanka, leading to showers in several areas today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces. Heavy falls of about 100 mm are likely in some places in the Northern and Eastern provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other areas of the island after 1.00 pm. Showers may occur in the Uva province and in the Hambantota district during the morning too.
Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces. Cloudy skies are expected over the Northern, Eastern, North-central, Uva and Central provinces.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be north-easterly, with speeds of 20-30 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.
