Indian actor and model Sherlyn Chopra says she has undergone surgery to remove her breast implants after months of chronic back, chest and shoulder pain that doctors linked to the weight of the implants.

Chopra, 38, announced the decision in an Instagram video, saying she had experienced persistent pressure in her upper body and only understood the cause after undergoing several medical consultations.

“I’ve realized that the cause of my chronic pain has been my heavy breast implants,” she said. “To bring back agility, vitality and stamina into my life, I have decided to have my breast implants removed once and for all.”

After the surgery, she described a sense of relief, writing: “I removed this massive weight from my chest. One implant weighed 825 grams. I now feel as light as a butterfly. I urge the younger generation not to be misled by what they see on social media and not to experiment with their bodies because of it.”

Chopra, who has appeared in Hindi-language films and TV shows, said the move was not a criticism of cosmetic procedures but a personal choice to return to her natural appearance. She also noted that she removed facial fillers in 2023. After the surgery, she posted that she was “feeling lighter” and asked followers to pray for her recovery.

Health experts say symptoms like Chopra’s are common among individuals with implants that are too large for their body frame.

Dr. Shraddha Deshpande, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai, said large implants can strain the spine and shoulder muscles, alter posture and, in some cases, cause nerve irritation. “Back, neck and chest pain are common because the body’s natural structure is forced to support additional weight,” she said.

Deshpande said some patients also develop capsular contracture, a condition in which scar tissue tightens around the implant, causing discomfort and hardness. She noted that implant removal or size reduction often relieves symptoms and helps the body realign.

Doctors advise people considering breast implants to choose sizes that suit their body proportions and to monitor for pain, tightness or changes in shape. They recommend good posture, stretching and strength exercises after surgery. (Newswire/Indian Express)
