154,000 retirees affected by pension disparities; Sajith raises issue in Parliament

November 19, 2025 at 5:48 PM

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today met a large group of retirees who staged a peaceful protest near the Polduwa Junction, opposite Parliament, highlighting severe disparities in pension payments for those who retired between 2020 and 2024.

The protesters said the anomalies had caused serious financial hardship, affecting nearly 154,000 retirees and amounting to a violation of their basic and human rights.

Premadasa visited the protest site this morning to listen to their grievances and later raised the issue in Parliament, calling on the government to address the matter urgently. After parliamentary proceedings concluded this afternoon, he returned to the location to further review the concerns raised by the retirees.

He said the Samagi Jana Balawegaya stands firmly with the affected pensioners and will extend its fullest support to secure a fair resolution to the issue. (Newswire)
