The Department of Meteorology says a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22.

It further stated that the low-pressure area may intensify further and is likely to move near the northern coast of Sri Lanka.

As such, several spells of showers are expected in the Northern, North-central provinces, and the Trincomalee district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other areas of the island after 1.00 pm.

Meanwhile, the Met Department has requested the Naval and fishing communities to be vigilant of the fresh low-pressure area that is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal

Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.

Winds will be north-easterly or Variable in direction, and speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar will be moderate at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
