Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces today, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other areas of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Meanwhile, the Naval and fishing communities have been requested to be vigilant due to the fresh low-pressure area, which is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around tomorrow (22).

This low-pressure area may intensify further and is likely to move near the Northern coast of Sri Lanka.

As such, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai today.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.

Winds will be north-easterly or Variable in direction, and speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar will be moderate at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
