
The Disaster Management Center reports that the number of fatalities in the landslide at the Lower Kadugannawa area in Ganethenna has risen to two.
The deceased include a person who was trapped among the debris. Four others injured in the incident are currently receiving treatment at Mawanella Hospital, hospital sources said.
The landslide occurred around 9:00 a.m. today (22) when soil and rocks fell onto a shop in the area.
As a result, the Ganethenna junction–Kadugannawa road has been temporarily closed. Vehicles traveling from Colombo to Kandy are being diverted via Rambukkana–Galagedara, while those from Kandy to Colombo are also advised to use alternative routes, the police said.
Additionally, vehicles traveling between Gampola and Colombo are advised to use the Mawanella–Hemmattagama route, and vehicles traveling from Colombo to Kandy are urged to use the expressway, police added.
