Sri Lanka will introduce bank card payments for bus ticket purchases from tomorrow, marking a key step in modernising the country’s public transport system.
The inaugural ceremony for the new payment facility will be held tomorrow morning at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre.
The initiative is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Digital Technology and the Ministry of Transport, and will be launched under the patronage of Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Bimal Rathnayake.
Officials say the new system will allow passengers to purchase bus tickets using bank cards, reducing the need for cash transactions and improving efficiency and convenience for daily commuters. The programme is expected to be gradually expanded across selected bus routes as part of the government’s wider digitalisation drive in public services. (Newswire)
