The National Audit Office Trade Union Collective has requested President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to appoint acting Auditor General G.H.D. Dharmapala as the Auditor General of Sri Lanka.

In a letter to the President, the Collective pointed out that Dharmapala has been serving in his post for the last seven months and has proven his capability, to which the Speaker of the Parliament, the Committee on Public Enterprise (COPE), and the Committee on Public Accounts bear witness.

Pointing out that the government has yet to appoint an Auditor General, despite the position being vacant since April 2025, the Collective said it believes Dharmapala was the most suitable candidate for the position.

As such, the National Audit Office Trade Union Collective has requested the President to appoint Dharmapala as the next Auditor General of Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
