Special Telco Relief Announced to Ensure Uninterrupted Communication During Crisis

All telecom operators in Sri Lanka have agreed to implement special emergency measures to support the public during the ongoing disaster situation, the Ministry of Digital Economy said.

The agreement was arrived at during a special meeting convened by Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne with the participation of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the Tri Forces, telecom operators, and senior industry representatives.

Under the initiative, postpaid mobile connections will not be disconnected even if users exceed their credit limits. Prepaid users will also receive assistance, including free data, SMS, and credit facilities.

The government stated that the measures aim to ensure uninterrupted communication access for all citizens during the current emergency. (Newswire)
