Telecommunication services in several parts of the country have been severely disrupted after key fibre optic cables were damaged in areas including Kadugannawa and Wattala, the Digital Ministry said.
According to officials, the widespread flooding and ongoing power failures have contributed to further interruptions across multiple districts, leaving many communities without stable mobile and internet connectivity.
The Ministry said repair teams and telecom operators are working under challenging conditions to restore essential communication links, with access difficulties and rising water levels slowing down restoration efforts in certain locations.
Authorities urged the public to remain patient as emergency teams prioritise repairs in the most affected regions, assuring that full connectivity will be restored as soon as conditions allow. (Newswire)
