Namal Rajapaksa: SLPP Grassroots Mobilised Nationwide for Relief Efforts

Opposition MP Namal Rajapaksa says Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) organisers and grassroots leaders across the country have already begun supporting families affected by the severe weather crisis, mobilising party networks to assist rescue and relief operations.

Rajapaksa noted that SLPP representatives in villages, divisional areas, and urban centres are actively helping communities with emergency shelter, cooked meals, transport, and coordination of essential support as floods and landslides continue to impact multiple districts.

He expressed deep condolences to families who have lost loved ones, stating that many lives—as well as businesses, homes, and livelihoods built over years—have been destroyed by the disaster.

Rajapaksa said the SLPP is working on the ground irrespective of political differences and will continue to back government-led relief efforts to ensure affected residents receive assistance without delay.

He also urged that animals trapped by floodwaters be protected wherever possible, saying every life matters during this crisis.

Rajapaksa extended his gratitude to government officials, the Tri-Forces, Police, Grama Niladharis, volunteer teams, and youth groups supporting rescue and welfare missions. He requested the public to remain cautious over the coming days and prioritise safety as weather conditions remain unpredictable. (Newswire)
