The National Blood Bank has extended its gratitude to the citizens of Sri Lanka for the blood donations made in the wake of the disaster due to Cyclone Ditwah.

Addressing the media today, Director of the National Blood Bank, Dr. Lakshman Edirisinghe, said over 20,000 blood donations have been received within a span of three days.

Dr. Lakshman Edirisinghe said an appeal was made to the public for the daily requirement of 1500 blood donations, but the response has exceeded the required amount.

He further revealed that the current stock of blood is sufficient for the next 15 days, enabling the National Blood Bank’s operations to return to normal.

“I would like to thank all the citizens and the media for assisting the National Blood Bank in its time of need,” Dr. Lakshman Edirisinghe said.

Stating that there was no blood donation requirement for the next few days, the National Blood Bank Director requested the public to return to the ordinary donation process. (Newswire)
