
A ship carrying emergency relief from the Government of Tamil Nadu is en route to Sri Lanka to assist communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah and the subsequent floods and landslides.
The vessel, loaded with 950 metric tons of essential supplies, left the Port of Tuticorin today carrying food items and clothing meant for distribution to disaster-hit families across Sri Lanka. The aid shipment has been dispatched under the direction of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.
According to the Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai, the consignment was provided in response to a request made by Dr. Ganeshnathan Geethishwaran, Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, under the guidance of Minister Vijitha Herath. The donation was officially handed over to Dr. Geethishwaran by Chief Minister Stalin at a ceremony this morning.
Officials from the Tamil Nadu government and representatives of the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission attended the event.
Sri Lanka continues to receive international humanitarian support after thousands of families were displaced and significant damage was caused to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods due to the severe storm. (Newswire)
