Five people were injured and hospitalized following a serious road accident on Marine Drive in Bambalapitiya early this morning (06), police said.
The accident occurred at around 2.30 a.m. when a lorry travelling from Wellawatte towards Kollupitiya reportedly crashed into two cars parked by the roadside. According to Bambalapitiya Police, the lorry then moved towards the nearby railway line and came to a halt on the tracks.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the lorry driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer off control and collide with the two parked cars.
Police said further investigations are underway. (Newswire)
