A key 132 kV transmission line connecting Rantambe and Mahiyangana was restored today after being out of service for several days due to a severe accident that damaged the line and affected electricity supply in parts of the Ampara district.
Following the incident, several areas were disconnected from the national grid, forcing residents to remain without electricity for multiple days. During this period, the limited power generated from the Inginiyagala power plant was prioritised for essential services such as hospitals.
Teams of engineers and technical staff of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) worked around the clock to erect a temporary transmission tower to reconnect the damaged line. The CEB announced that the line was successfully restored after days of intensive work under difficult conditions.
The CEB expressed appreciation to the engineers and field workers involved in the emergency restoration, as well as to the public who endured the disruption and showed patience until electricity was re-supplied.
Although transmission has now been restored, the CEB warned that many areas may continue to face power outages due to extensive faults such as broken wires and fallen poles across the area. Repair teams are still in the field attending to these large-scale damages.
Consumers have been requested to report outages through the CEB Care mobile app, the website or by calling 1987, while being mindful that response times may be delayed due to the high volume of complaints received. (Newswire)
