Around 12,000 kilograms of meat stored at a livestock farm in the Anuradhapura District was sealed today after being found unfit for human consumption, the Public Health Inspectors Union said.
The meat stock had reportedly deteriorated due to floodwaters entering the facility and a power outage that disrupted refrigeration. The discovery followed a complaint made to the Disaster Management Hotline (1926) operated under the Health and Media Ministry.
Public Health Inspectors later inspected the premises and sealed the entire stock, said Pradeep Boralessa, Chairman of the Public Health Inspectors Union.
Samples of the meat are scheduled to be sent today (8) to a Government Analyst for further testing. Legal action will be taken based on the analyst’s report, officials said. (Newswire)
