The most Venerable Meththawihari Thero of Denmark, founder of Dharmavahini Foundation and several Buddhist media channels, has died at age 80.
Meththawihari Thero, who had been receiving cancer treatment while in the care of his sister, passed away Sunday night, the Dharmavahini Foundation said. Final rites will be performed in Denmark.
Meththawihari Thero was known for his contributions to not only the Buddhist order but also Buddhist education, founding the Dharmavahini Channel, LearnTV, and serving as advisor to the Saddhammavahini Channel.
A memorial religious ceremony and Paṁsukūla offering will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at the Narada Buddhist Center in Colombo 7. (Newswire)
