Irrigation Department withdraws flood warnings for 21 river basins

The Department of Irrigation has officially withdrawn flood warnings for 21 river basins across Sri Lanka, stating that water levels have now returned to normal.

The withdrawal affects flood alerts previously issued for the following river basins:

2.⁠ ⁠Deduru Oya
3.⁠ ⁠Mahaweli River
4.⁠ ⁠Mahaweli River (Badulu Oya Sub-basin)
5.⁠ ⁠Kalu Ganga
6.⁠ ⁠Kalu Ganga (Kuda Ganga Sub-basin)
7.⁠ ⁠Gin Ganga
8.⁠ ⁠Kelani River
9.⁠ ⁠Nilwala River
10.⁠ ⁠Menik Ganga
11.⁠ ⁠Kumbukkan Oya
12.⁠ ⁠Gal Oya
13.⁠ ⁠Heda Oya
14.⁠ ⁠Mundeni Aru
15.⁠ ⁠Maduru Oya
16.⁠ ⁠Yan Oya
17.⁠ ⁠Ma Oya
18.⁠ ⁠Kala Oya
19.⁠ ⁠Malwathu Oya
20.⁠ ⁠Mi Oya
21.⁠ ⁠Attanagalu Oya

The Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the Irrigation Department confirmed that river levels in these basins have now stabilized and no longer pose a flood risk.

Officials said the division will continue to monitor rainfall patterns and river conditions across the island.
