The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for heavy rain in the Northern and North-Central Provinces, and the Batticaloa and Trincomalee Districts today.
Per the advisory, valid until 08.30 am tomorrow, the Northeast monsoon conditions have established over Sri Lanka, leading to heavy showers above 100 mm in the Northern and North-Central provinces, and the Batticaloa and Trincomalee Districts.
Red alerts have been issued to 09 districts, and amber alerts to 16 districts, while the public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by heavy rain, strong winds and severe lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
