The ‘Beyond Recovery’ flagship initiative, organized under the Clean Sri Lanka programme, was launched in the Badulla district yesterday (10) to support the mental health and well-being of children and elderly people residing in relief centres following Cyclone Ditwah.
The launch took place at temporary shelters established at Morahela Maha Vidyalaya and Kanugolla Sumanarama Viharaya, under the Meegahakivula Divisional Secretariat.
At present, 279 people from 118 families are temporarily residing at Morahela Maha Vidyalaya, while 288 individuals from 101 families are staying at Kanugolla Sumanarama Viharaya.
According to the President’s Office, a key focus of the ‘Beyond Recovery’ project is to provide psychological support and encouragement to help displaced people rebuild their lives.
As part of the launch, a special musical event was organized with the participation of volunteer artists, bringing joy and a sense of renewal to both children and elderly residents.
In addition, essential items such as school supplies, books and toys, donated by generous individuals and organizations to the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, were distributed to children at the centres.
Specialists with expertise in mental health, child psychology, public health and creative skills development, along with international volunteers, participated in the project and conducted practical activities for the children.
Following its launch in the Badulla district, the ‘Beyond Recovery’ programme is scheduled to be implemented at several additional relief centres today (11). (Newswire)
