Almas Holdings pledges Rs. 225 mn for flood relief, rebuilding efforts

Almas Holdings Pvt Ltd has pledged Rs. 225 million towards flood relief and rebuilding efforts following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, with a major portion directed to the government’s ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ President’s Fund.

The company, a long-term investment holding firm operating in the capital market and real estate sectors, made the pledge through its subsidiary Almas Equities Pvt Ltd, a licensed stockbroker regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Almas Holdings Chairman Imtiaz Buhardeen on Friday handed over a cheque for Rs. 100 million to President’s Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake at the Presidential Secretariat. He also pledged an additional Rs. 125 million to support flood relief and rebuilding programmes in the Kandy District.

Buhardeen said Almas Holdings remains committed to supporting communities affected by the floods, particularly in areas requiring urgent rehabilitation and long-term recovery.

Managing Director of Almas Equities Pvt Ltd Shameer Buhardeen, Directors Risvi Abdul Majeed and Ruzly Shamsudeen, Chief Executive Officer of Almas Equities Pvt Ltd Ifadh Marikar, and Consultant – Strategic Development of Almas Holdings Pvt Ltd Thakshila Hulangamuwa were also present at the event.

The ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund was established by the government to mobilise financial support for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts following natural disasters across the country. (Newswire)
