
The prevailing showery conditions over the Northern and Eastern provinces are expected to continue during the next few days, due to the influence of the Easterly wave flow affecting the weather in Sri Lanka.
According to the Department of Meteorology, as such, showers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces today.
Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in these areas in the Northern and Eastern provinces and in the Polonnaruwa district. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the other areas of the island after 1.00 pm.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Eastern slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Meanwhile, showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
