Two remand prisoners at the Galle Prison were taken into custody today (17) at noon after attempting to escape, with prison officers firing shots into the air to stop them.
Prison sources said the two inmates had been remanded in connection with an assault case.
Although the court had granted them bail, no one had come forward to post bail, and therefore, they remained in custody.
It was further reported that both prisoners sustained minor injuries and have been admitted to the prison hospital. (Newswire)
