Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahman says that while the National People’s Power (NPP) once defeated his party through a secret vote, today they have openly been defeated by voting down the Colombo Municipal Council budget.
He further noted that this outcome has occurred within just six months, a relatively short period of time.
MP Rahman went on to add that the President must understand that votes cannot be secured simply by offering biryani at night to councillors.
“You came into power to end the political practice of offering privileges and biriyani to MPs and councillors. But after coming into power, you have also continued with the same practice. Now, we have sent a message to the government proving that they do not hold power in the CMC. From now on, the CMC will be controlled by the joint opposition,” he added.
