The Sri Lanka Police has announced that a formal security operation and traffic plan will be implemented during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festive season to ensure safety in cities and at religious sites.
According to the Police, the IGP has instructed all senior officers, divisional heads, and station commanders to implement a formal security operation and traffic plan during the festive season.
Accordingly, Special security and traffic arrangements have been put in place in major towns where large crowds gather for shopping and festive activities, to allow the public to carry out their activities without obstruction.
Catholic churches and related religious institutions hosting Christmas services will be provided with coordinated security, in consultation with religious leaders and administrators, to safeguard worshippers.
Security measures have been enforced around key institutions, shopping complexes, and crowded public places.
Intelligence units and plain‑clothes police officers will be deployed in urban areas to gather information and take preventive action.
Hotels, shopping complexes, and entertainment venues attracting large crowds will also be subject to enhanced security monitoring.
The public is requested to inform the nearest police officer, police patrol, or traffic unit if they observe any suspicious activity or receive information of concern.
Sri Lanka Police emphasized that all these security and traffic operations will be carried out as part of its national responsibility to ensure public safety during the festive season. (Newswire)
