
A prison inmate receiving treatment at the Nagoda Teaching Hospital was injured in a shooting incident this morning (31 Dec).
According to the hospital director, the shooting occurred around 6.00 am, targeting the inmate who was being treated in the surgical ward.
An unidentified gunman had entered the Kalutara Nagoda General Hospital and shot at a drug trafficker who was under the protection of prison officials.
It is reported that the bullet had struck his abdomen, and the prisoner is currently undergoing surgery.
The Police stated that the suspect had fled the scene after the shooting and that the attack was carried out using a revolver‑type firearm.
