
The showery condition is expected to increase in the Eastern, Northern and Uva provinces during the coming days, due to the development of a low-level atmospheric disturbance to the East of Sri Lanka.
According to the Department of Meteorology, as such, showers will occur at times in the Eastern, Central, North-central and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota district today.
Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely in some places in the Central and Uva provinces and in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern province. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 pm. Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in these areas.
A few showers may occur in the coastal areas of the North-western and Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Meanwhile, the Navel and fishing communities have been requested to be vigilant, as a low-level atmospheric disturbance is developing to the East of Sri Lanka.
As such, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Colombo, Galle, Hambantota and Batticaloa today. Showers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island.
Winds will be northerly to north-easterly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Hambantota via Colombo, Puttalam, Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Hambantota via Colombo, Puttalam, Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa will be fairly rough at times.
